The Chariot – Symbol for a ‘Seven’ Year

Happy New Year!  2023 is a universal Seven Year.  The numbers add up to the number seven:  (2+0+2+3=7) In the study of numerology, Seven is the energy of movement, progress, and victory.  So, what can we expect from a Seven Year?  According to preeminent numerologist Michele Landers, Seven has a spiritual vibe.  It can be a time of introspection and self-evaluation.  The energy is focused on philosophical pursuits.  It’s also good year for travel.  Important decisions are often made in a Seven Year and it’s possible that people from the past may appear.

In the major arcana suit of the Tarot, the Seven is represented by the Chariot. Several basic key words for the Chariot card include self-assertion, will, drive, diligence, motivation, and perseverance.  It can also represent success and victory.  In most versions of the Chariot card there is a figure standing in chariot driving forward with the help of two beings.  Sometimes they are horses, sometimes they are other animals, and curiously, in the Rider Waite Smith deck they are sphinxes.

The overall meaning of the Chariot is about moving forward in some way of one’s own volition, as much as possible.  In the physical realm we have a number of gifts to help us manifest what we need and want in life, but we must find the right balance between our thoughts and our emotions.   Success will come when we learn to control conflicting desires within us. By paying attention to the power of our unconscious needs. we can learn to direct them toward achieving our goals rather than being derailed by them.

How do these energies relate?  I think it’s an apt metaphor.  In many versions of the Chariot card, there is an aura of spiritualty that is also part of what is driving the charioteer forward.  It’s a good depiction of the metaphysical principle of manifestation, which originates not from the physical things we do here on the earth plane, but desires in the soul.  We can better move forward when we learn to balance our earthly habits with spiritual wisdom.  By starting with introspection and focus we can direct our drive more successfully.

On New Year’s Eve I pulled The Chariot as my Card of the Day. I was focused on what I needed to know for the year ahead.  I think this card came as a confirmation that if we each do our part and hold the reigns steady, we can continue to move steadily forward in meeting our goals for the year.
