SOLAR ECLIPSE 4/8/24

A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun, blocking all or part of the Sun's light from reaching Earth. This celestial event happens only during a new moon, when the Sun and the Moon are aligned in the sky. This coming Monday, April 8, we will experience the first Solar Eclipse since 2017 that has been fully visible in the U.S.

Eclipses have fascinated and sometimes terrified people throughout history. According to historical records, a solar eclipse occurred on August 2, 1133, just days after the death of King Henry I of England. This eclipse was interpreted by some as a portent of divine displeasure. Henry's death triggered a succession crisis that eventually led to civil war in England.

A more recent eclipse made scientific use of the knowledge that the eclipse would occur.  On May 29, 1919, a solar eclipse helped to confirm Einstein's new theory of general relatively.  Sir Arthur Eddington led an investigation by taking advantage of the total solar eclipse. As the moon blocked sunlight during the eclipse, more stars were visible near the sun. The team's measurements taken during the eclipse confirmed that starlight bent around the sun; an early confirmation of Einstein's theory that massive objects warp the fabric of space-time.

The upcoming solar eclipse falls within the zodiacal sign of Aries. Astrologically, the specific zodiacal aspects of this eclipse and their influence on you and your chart will depend on the exact degree and position that it transits your natal chart.  However, speaking in general terms, Aries is associated with themes of individuality, action, and new beginnings – and so are eclipses! The energy at the time of an Aries new moon may already be encouraging you to take bold initiatives, strengthen your assertiveness, and focus on personal growth and exploration.

So, what about an eclipse?  What effect does that have on our New Moon in Aries energy?  Well, an eclipse is an interruption of the energy.  It’s a very special phenomenon, occurring infrequently, unlike the monthly new moon and full moon.  There is the sense of intensity and excitement and the possibility for sudden change. Add that to themes of action and initiation and Monday would certainly be a great time to focus on starting something new.  You will be especially affected if you have your Sun, Moon, or Rising Sign in Aries, Libra, Cancer, or Capricorn. However, everyone will feel some effects.

For locals here in Palm Beach County, Florida:  According to timeanddate.com, the partial solar eclipse could be visible here from 1:48:47 to 4:15:49 p.m. EST with maximum viewability at 3:03:44  p.m. Monday, April 8, 2024.
