SHIFT HAPPENS – THE OUTER PLANETS IN 2025

In 2025 a number of significant astrological changes are occurring with the outer planets - Neptune, Uranus, and Pluto  - all moving into new signs. The outer planets are billions of miles away; their orbits take many years to complete. These transits have generational and global impacts, influencing deeper processes and larger-scale transformations. Let’s look at how each of them will influence us. (You might want to grab a cup of coffee; this is a long one!)

Uranus, currently in the sign of Taurus, will move from Taurus into Gemini from July 7 through November 7 and then retrograde back into Taurus until April of next year, at which point he will remain in Gemini through 2033. So how does Uranus, the planet of sudden change, revolution, disruption, and innovation behave in each of these signs?

During its transit through Taurus from 2018 to 2026, Uranus disrupted and revolutionized the foundations of our material world—money, resources, food systems, and our relationship to the Earth and the body. On a personal level, it challenged people to redefine their values, security, and what stability truly means, often through sudden changes or awakenings in areas tied to possessions, income, and self-worth.

The exact ingress of Uranus into Gemini, occurring on July 7, heralds a major generational shift for changes in technology, communication, values, and systems. We are already experiencing such things as AI. There are likely to be revolutions in media, journalism, and education in term of how we gather, process, and share information.

Meanwhile, Neptune - the planet of transcendence, intuition, compassion, and spirituality - entered Aries on March 30 after a 14-year transit through the dreamy, introspective energy of Pisces. Neptune’s transit through Pisces has been a deeply spiritual, elusive, and transformative period, dissolving boundaries and reshaping collective consciousness through dreams, art, mysticism, and illusion. It heightened global interest in spirituality, empathy, and the unseen realms, while also blurring the lines between reality and fantasy in media, politics, and daily life.

Neptune will retrograde back into Pisces from October 22, 2025 through January 26, 2026 where it will stay through 2039.

Neptune’s current transit into Aries gives us a sneak peek into the eventual long-term transit next year which will shape cultural, social, and spiritual trends for the next decade and beyond, influencing how ideals, spirituality, and activism are approached. As Neptune moves into Aries, the sign of individuality, initiative, and drive, the collective dream turns toward self-assertion, pioneering vision, and spiritual courage.

This era may inspire a new wave of idealistic activism, where people fight for visionary causes and channel compassion into direct action. At the same time, there’s potential for confusion around identity and ego, as the boundaries between self and illusion blur in new ways. We may see the rise of spiritual warriors, but also confront the shadow of ego-driven idealism or violence justified by belief. Overall, Neptune in Aries asks us to imagine new frontiers—not just in the world, but in how we express our soul’s purpose with fearless authenticity.

Finally, the advent of Pluto moving into Aquarius last November has already been having quite a profound effect. Pluto is known as the planet of transformation, power, death and rebirth. For the United States, this transit marks the ‘Pluto return’ for the country, when Pluto is in the same sign as it was when a country was formed. Pluto’s recent transit through Capricorn from 2008 to 2023 marked profound change of global power structures, institutions, and societal hierarchies. It has exposed corruption, dismantled outdated systems, and has been forcing a deep reckoning with authority, control, and the foundations of governments, corporations, and economies.

As we move through this transit in Aquarius, which will last through January of 2044, there will continue to be strong transformations of collective systems, technology, and the very fabric of society. This era is poised to revolutionize how we relate to power on a global scale—through innovation, decentralization, and the rise of grassroots movements. Themes of digital identity, artificial intelligence, transhumanism, and collective autonomy will dominate, as old hierarchies give way to more networked, egalitarian structures.

While this transit holds immense potential for social progress and technological breakthroughs, it also brings the risk of surveillance, control through data, and the loss of individual agency within the collective. Ultimately, Pluto in Aquarius challenges us to wield technological and communal power with integrity, vision, and a deep respect for human freedom.

Overall, it’s clear that change is happening on a very large scale for all of us. We are being asked to embrace new systems, ideas, and ideologies at an incredibly rapid rate. Remember that ‘the stars incline, they do not compel. If there’s any advice to be had, I like this quote from James Baldwin: “Not everything that is faced can be changed. But nothing can be changed until it is faced.”
